Basque Non-League Day
Inspired by Non-League Day UK, Athletic Club’s Euskal Non-League Day is an event designed to recognise the fundamental work its affiliated clubs throughout the Basque Country do in serving their communities and producing players for Athletic’s first team.
Last year, Athletic signalled its intention to celebrate the initiative in the Basque Country by travelling to Dulwich Hamlet’s Champion Hill to watch their NLD 20232 match against Oxford City. The Basque club then held a successful pilot event in September 2023 and is now promoting its second Euskal Non-League Day on the same day as the UK version.
Athletic’s academy and partnerships with local clubs play a huge role in the club’s unique sporting philosophy, and as such, its entire identity. Non-League Day is an opportunity to promote grassroots football in an event which exemplifies and honours the sense of belonging shared between the institution, the team, the fans and the region.
